We recorded the first episode of Psychosis Sucks and quickly discovered that we are never at a loss for words when we talk about this topic.
This podcast will take a closer look at programs and treatment pathways intended to connect people to care. We plan to bring in clinicians, first responders, legal professionals, program leaders, family members, and people with lived experience.
Together, we will examine what is working, who is still not being reached, and why. We also want to understand what makes a program successful in one locale and whether those lessons can be applied elsewhere.
That is the plan! Given our passion for the subject, keeping us to 40 minutes may be our first implementation challenge.

In Episode 2, the tables turn as Dr. Susan Partovi interviews Ann Marie Council. Ann Marie shares the challenges she has faced as a lawyer attempting to navigate California’s mental health system on behalf of first responders. She talks about what she and her clients accomplished, and the barriers they faced at nearly every turn.
Episode 3:
Lessons from Italy
In Episode 3, we talk with Kerry Morrison, founder and project director of Heart Forward LA, about what happens when someone outside the mental health world decides to fix what’s broken. Kerry started on Hollywood Boulevard, wondering why the people who needed help most kept slipping through. That question took her all the way to Trieste, Italy, and back home to try ideas Los Angeles had never seen, inside housing, inside the jail, and out in the community. We explore what worked, what surprised her, and what she’d tell anyone who wants to make a difference. You don’t need a clinical degree to change the system. Kerry is proof.
